Abby's Blog

Me and my friends Meg,Bella and Emma were walking to school from  Emma’s house. It was a cool spring day. I could feel the breeze on the back of my neck. The wind was blowing lightly and the daisy’s and the dandelions were swaying nicely breeze. The sun was shining brightly, and it made the sidewalk glow a little bit. All four of us slept over at Emma’s house last night.   We all live on a private road called Ocean way. There’s only  a small number of people who live there with us. But we know everyone.  And in the summer we have the best 4th of July parties. 

As we walked to school,we talked about the school play. This year we’re doing. The wizard of oz!  Today is Monday and we all auditioned for the school play on Friday for the theater teacher Ms. Bloom and the principal of our school Mr. Evans. He lets us call him by his first name,Oliver.  Soon we were close enough to the school that we could see the door, we saw Ava Small and her wannabees walk up to the door. 

“Don’t worry Emma.” Ava said,All perky and annoying. “I tell you who gets to play Dorothy.”   Both Ava and Emma auditioned for the role of Dorothy.

Emma looks tough and scared at the same time. But only someone who truly knows her. Knows that she’s scared on the inside. 

“P.s.” Ava said all full of it. “I’ll be the one who steals the spotlight. Even if I end up being a poppy flower or a munchkin. I will find a way to win!!!” Then she walked inside with her wannabees.

“Ok, now I ‘m really scared. Do you think Ava will get the role?” said Emma nervously. 

“Your kidding right?” asked Meg. Sounding a little annoyed at Emma fussing over nothing.  “ You always get the lead in every play you audition for . And Avas has been your co-star since pre-k. Emma, you can so beat Ava Small and her wannabees. Everyone who’s Anyone knows that you’re way better than that jerk.” 

“Yeah I remember last year she read my diary out loud. Now I have a lock,” said Bella. 

“That girl is SUCH a Wicked Witch of the West!!!!” I said. Then we

 all burst into laughter. 

We all auditioned for the school play the wizard of oz. Emma the biggest theater kid in the school, auditioned for Dorothy, the lead of course. 

Emma’s always the lead in all the plays she’s been in since pre-k when she starred in the five-minute play of the boy who cried wolf.  A boy named Andrew was going to be the lead and Emma was going to be a sheep. But Emma threw a fit and cried until she was the boy who cried wolf, and Andrew was a sheep. Meg and I were townspeople in that play and we didn’t meet Bella until next year. 

 

“Yeah. I’m never to. My audition didn’t go too well.”  said Bella, who auditioned for the lion. 

“Hey, it might be a good thing.” I said, “ it shows you and the cowardly lion are very alike.” 

“I don’t know,” Bella said all shy. Bella has stage fright. And so during Bella’s audition, she got all frozen and couldn’t say the rest of her lines in that scene. And as soon as Ms.Bloom the theater teacher said 

“Next please.” Bella came bolting down from the stage and stuffed her face in my shoulder. 

“Bella should totally play the lion. Because she has no courage at all!!” said Ava Small over laughter.

“Hey!!!” said Ms. Bloom “It takes a lot of courage to even take a step on this stage in front of everyone in here.” Everyone got quieter after that. And I bet Ava felt kinda stupid than. “Ms.Small, before you go around and make people feel bad about not being brave, why don’t you come on up here and try being brave and sing for all of us. We will all be watching you.”    And just then Ava Small got as red as an apple.

Bella is the shyest and quietest girl that I’ve ever met. 

And when we first met on the first day of kindergarten she was getting bullied because she had a monster truck lunchbox. And some boys were giving her a hard time because of it. So I stepped in and said 

“There’s no such thing as boy stuff and girl stuff. Ok. and I saw Collins playing with the ponies this morning in the corner. And that’s ok.”  Then Collin and his friends walked away to play with the ponies in the corner.   And Bella, Collins, and I still play ponies together sometimes when no one is looking. 

 

“How are you feeling Meg?” asked Emma 

“Good I guess. I just can’t get the wicked witches cackle.” Meg said sadly 

“And I can’t be the wicked witch of the west without her cackle,” Meg said and then she tried to cackle. It wasn’t too good. Meg auditioned for the wicked witch of the west. She wanted to audition for Dorothy because Meg loves to sing. And she’s really good. We all want her to try to go on America’s Got talent.  Anyway, Meg didn’t audition for Dorothy because she knew that Emma would be in the audience, and Emma is very competitive. She plays five different sports. And Meg did not want to make Emma angry.

 

“Sydney, why did you audition for the lead flying monkey?” asked Bella. 

“Because I love monkeys. And I will get to jump around on stage and be on my knees sometimes. But I love all the characters” I said, “and maybe they will come up with a cool way for me to fly.” 

“Lucky,” said Meg and Emma at the same time. 

“Jinx, blackout lockout you can’t talk until I say your name,” said Meg who is almost as competitive as Emma. 

 

We walk to school talking and listening to Emma’s whining. When all of a sudden Emma starts jumping up and down pointing at something.

“What is it Emma,” said Meg 

“LOOK LOOK IT’S DOROTHY’S RUBY RED SLIPPERS !!!!!!!!!!!!” Emma screamed at the top of her lungs. 

“Hey, you talked. But wow how the heck did this get here?” Meg said shocked. All of a sudden a lot of wind comes out of nowhere. The wind is so strong that it’s hard for us to stay on the ground. “Quick!!!” I said trying to be louder than the wind. “Let’s try to take shelter in the school.”  All of us started to run to the school we were only four feet away. We were almost there when Bella just turned around and walked in the other direction. 

“Bella!!!” I yelled, “what are you doing?!?!?!?” 

“I have to get Dorothy’s slippers.”

“Bella wait, stop come back.” Meg started yelling “I have the shoes I grabbed them when Emma wasn’t looking!!” 

“HEY!!!!!” said Emma 

“Sorry,” said Meg 

“Bella comes back!!!” we all screamed in unison.  Bella ran back to school as fast as a cheetah. Which is no surprise to anyone who’s met Bella, She is the fastest girl on the girl’s track team. And the fastest on the boys. She gets to practice with them sometimes because her older brother is on the team.  

 Bella got back to school just in time. Because as soon as she got back a tornado started to form. 

“This is almost exactly like what happened in the wizard of oz!!!” said Emma.

“Yay, we better get inside,” I said the same time Meg opened the door. 

 

“Wow!!!” we all said at the same time. Our school has been transformed from a typical elementary school to munchkin land from the wizard of oz.   everything from the little mushroom houses and town to the spiral rainbow lollipop flowers. And the small pond with water lily and lilypads. There’s candy everywhere and you can feel magic in the air. There’s also flowers and trees and nature all around us.  But the most notable was the red and yellow spiral road.

“Where the heck did that pond come from???” Meg asked Bella 

“I have no idea,” said Bella. “But it’s pretty.”   

“Wait, Meg why are you dressed as the tin man?” said Emma.

“And why are you dressed as the scarecrow, Emma?” said Meg back at her.

“Wait I’m the scarecrow. What, no, why I should be Dorothy. Not the scarecrow.” Emma shrieked.

“But Sydney’s Dorothy,” said Bella shyly. 

“And you’re the cowardly lion Bella,” I said 

“Wait no, no one changes the subject here. I should be Dorothy!!!” said Emma getting kinda mad.

“Welcome to munchkin land,” said Ms.Bloom dressed as Glinda the good witch.

“Oh, hi Ms.Bloom. It’s nice to see you,” said Bella 

“Who is Ms.Boom, I am Glinda the good witch of the south,” said Ms. Bloom oh sorry. Said Glinda. “And these are the munchkins. Come out children come out, these people are friendly.” Glinda said cheerfully as she motioned for the munchkins to come out. 

Boom there’s smoke and then we see Ava as the wicked witch of the west and her wannabees as her flying monkeys.

“Who has the powerful ruby red shoes is it you or is it. Ahh, it’s you four. Why do you have my shoes. I stole those last week from Judy Garland herself. Now give me those.” said Ava or the Wicked witch. But when she grasped them her hands got shocked.   “Ahh they burn, they burn bad.” The wicked witch said then turned to her monkeys to talk up an evil plan.  

“Wait,” whisper Meg “In the movie the witch dies from water.” 

“Yes and she’s right in front of the pond we should run up and push her in,” I said and everyone nodded.

“One, two there!” said Emma and we all ran up and pushed the wicked witch down into the pond.

“NO, not water. Water is one thing that can defeat me. NOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!” yelled the wicked witch as she died in the water. And all of her flying monkeys just left, then fighting over who gets to be the bost.

“Well, no more swimming or drinking out of that pond. I’ll just order a new one” said Glinda pulling out a phone. “The new pond should be here in two weeks.”    

Then out of nowhere a hot air balloon comes down from the ceiling.  

“Thank you for crashing the wicked witch of the west. Now I will give you a reward,” said Mr. Evans as the wizard of Oz with his eyes closed.  When he and his balloon get to the ground and when he opens eyes he says “oh it’s you four again. The lion is brave, the tin man has a heart and the scarecrow has a brain. And the girl has to click her heels two to three times to go home.” 

“Oh, well ok.” I said, “hold on everyone.”

Then we all said “there’s no place like home there’s no place like home there’s no place like home.”  and then there was a lot of clapping and cheering.  So we open our eyes and see that we were all the stars of the school play.

All of these shadow puppets are made from trash and things found lining around the house.  And you don’t have to make a shadow puppet, you can make any piece of art you want.

 

One reason that you should try to make art out of trash is being creative is good for your brain and your mood. Because you will be doing something fun, instead of staring at your computer.  And you will feel good if you let yourself take a break from your computer. Making art will help you relax and let you focus on a different target. You could make decorations for your room or your house. Or you can make beds, houses, fake food, or other things for your toys or stuffed animals. And you can make anything you want, out of anything you want. You can use things that are recyclable. 

 

Another reason that you should try to make art out of trash is it will allow you to reuse, recycle, and upcycle materials that are already laying around the house.  At my house, there’s a ton of cardboard laying around because my sister was going to make a big really big dollhouse. But never got around to it. So we have the cat house.  However, she and Lola ( my grandmama) have made two beds for our doll’s. One out of a cereal box, and the other out of a different box. And you can use any old thing you can find.

 

The last but not least reason that you should try to make art out of trash is that you can make the world a better place.people need that right now. I heard that in some places people are painting rocks and hiding them around their town. So when people go for a run or a walk they can see the beautiful rocks. And people are making rainbows to symbolize hope and that we will flatten the curve. People are hanging signs of rainbows all over the world. The happy craze has spread from one city/country to the next.

 

 

 So you should try to make art out of the trash because it’s good for your brain and your mood. You can reuse recycled and upcycled materials that are good for the plant, and you can make the plant and the world a better place. So go out into your house and start looking for the best materials to make something beautiful and creative, Like these.

Oliver’s my brother Ollie for short. He’s in eighth grade and he’s 14. And I’m Zoe or Zo, short for Zoanna. I’m in sixth grade and I’m 12. Me and my family live in Bowdoinham Maine and we all really love it here.    I have two dads. Jamie and Nathan. They’re both awesome and I love them but sometimes it feels weird being the only girl human in the house. We have a dog named Jill. I have an older sister who’s in college. Her name’s Summer and she’s 21. So I’m not the only girl in the family. She said she would be home in a month. It’s March right now, I’m hoping she will come home in time for Easter Sunday. I don’t want to be the only one wearing a dress.  We go to church every Sunday. We go to church because our family is Christian, Both dads. I don’t think summer love’s it here. The minute she graduated from high school she ran right out the door and drove home to pack for college in new york. We ran after her to find out what she was doing.  Summer has always been weird and mysterious. I feel like I live in the movie Frozen, because summer has always blocked me out and shut me out. No one knows why.

 “I wonder what she’s hiding. What if she has magic powers?” I told Ollie. 

“Nah, that’s crazy Zo” Ollie said.  Maybe he’s right, magic’s silly. But Grandmama did always talk about it. So there might be a chance.

I think that means to find your self in away.  And the be happy for yourself and the others around you.    Be a champion,… you know.  Be strong, be heard, be you. Don’t be him.  Don’t be her.  BE YOU!!!!!

And for me, my new year’s goals are to bake more.   Because I got a few baking kits for Christmas and I want to try them out.   Maybe…no…definitely make cookies,…mmm,  snickerdoodle.  ha. Snickerdoodle, what a funny name.

Anyway one of my other goals is to stand up for the things I believe.  And I want to. No, I WILL speak my mind.      And I WILL be heard.    Sometimes I feel like I’m in the middle of a battlefield.     My friends fight a lot.   And I mean a LOT!!!!!!

I think that this video is about kindness.  I know that’s probably what everyone will say.   Yay, well I’m not everybody.    I will try my best to be kind.  And I think everybody should try hard then, everybody should try harder to be kind.

But the world will never be perfect.   There will always be some people who think that being mean is better than being kind.   If you are one of those people, maybe try saying sorry.  And just see how far that goes.

I think that talks about standing up to bullies.   And to remember not to be pushed down. And to remember to stand up for anyone who is being no matter if their your friend or not.  What do you think it means?

” Let’s go Rancy, com on Rancy now.” said Grace as she tried pulling her new puppy ( Rancy) outside for a walk around her yard. Grace had just got her puppy three to four days ago. Which was why she wasn’t at school on Wednesday.

“I already got the flashlights,”said Grace.  We were starting to get deeper and deeper into the forest that is their backyard.

We are very deep already.  But then Grace freaks me out she screams and thinks that she sees a wild animal or a person.

“We should start heading back.” Said grace

“Why?????????” I said I kinda wanted to know what she saw. But at the same time, I was scared to.  And one of my biggest fears is being alone in the darkness.  It would make sense that I was scared.  Right???

Swoosh, slam “let’s hide in here,” said Lily as they run into Emily’s room to hide from everyone else at Abby’s birthday party. She and Grace thought that it would be funny to hide from people. But things turned right around when people started to look for them, it went from funny to scary very fast.

It started out as a normal hour at the birthday party.  Some people were hanging out upstairs and chilling with slime and playing air hockey. The other half was outside in the backyard on the trampoline and swimming.

 

All of a sudden  Cadence run into the room yell super loud “DO YOU KNOW WHERE GRACE AND LILy ARE?!?!?!?!?!?!” 

“ Um, no actually where are Lily and Grace???” said Abby.   And then everyone started saying stuff like “ Lily grace come out, come on it’s not funny anymore!!!”

 

“ Hey, maybe they wanted to play hide and seek. I think that’s why they’re hiding” someone said. ( I think that Lila might have said it.  But, I don’t like to point fingers. So uh, yeah. I don’t know who said it.) Lily and Grace hear it and wanted to say in their hiding spot because they wanted to win the hide and seek game.   So they didn’t come out when they hear people calling their names!  

“ Grace, Lily,  come on out sweeties.”  said my mom. “ Well if we can’t find them we might as well just call their moms,” said my dad. “NO NO NO NO!!!” I and all of my friends said.   “ Well then KEEP LOOKING,” said my mom. But by the time she said it, we were already halfway up the straits.

 

We looked in all the same places and some people had more ideas of where they could be hiding. Cadence looked in Emily’s room 4 times     

 

After about 45 minutes of looking I hear them giggling in Emily’s room under her bean bag. and busted them so Cadence stopped worrying and things went back to normal,  well as normal as things get when Abbys around!   Thank you to tastemade for the picture.
